Secure mobile communications – Is our data secure?

Tech Review

In manman-talking-on-smartphoney businesses, as much effort is put into securing sensitive information as it is into keeping our people and property safe and secure.

Keeping our data protected is of critical importance for any number of reasons. Business will apply security to their servers and networks to reduce the risks of intrusion and to minimise the loss and disruption that is associated with a security breach.

However, this often doesn’t take into account that a large part of our business communications is conducted on mobile devices, and the networks these mobile devices communicate over, are not company owned or controlled – they are provided by organisations such as Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

Is the data that we transmit over these mobile networks actually secure? Would we know if our data and communications were being intercepted or listened to? The fact is we wouldn’t and without any viable alternative, how else do we communicate securely when we are away from the work place?

Indra, a Spanish multinational technology and consulting organisation, has developed a solution that addresses this very issue.

Known as , it is a product that is aimed at the government and corporate sector and provides a platform for ensuring mobile communications are totally secure.

Indra guarantees secure voice and data transmission over any mobile network. The solution is compatible with an extensive range of conventional mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad and numerous Samsung and Nokia cell phones and tablets.

The system is server based with a client application or “app” installed on each mobile device. All communications between devices in secured by way of an AES256 standard encryption, regardless if the communication involves voice or data transfer. This is a far higher level of security than any of the commercial carriers could ever provide.

The mobile device becomes an extension of the corporate communications network and only transmits data over IP.

COMSec-VIP Features:

  • The system will work wherever wireless data is available (2G/3G/4G/LTE/WiFi or satellite networks)
  • Offers features such as Voice over IP (VoIP), instant messaging, video conferencing and file transfer, all with the highest level of security.
  • Being IP based, the system is impossible to trace as only data packets are transmitted using a unique protocol and encrypted.

The system is aimed at senior executives and anybody who discusses or transmits highly sensitive information on mobile devices.

Perhaps this is something your organisation may have considered in the past but found it was out of reach? As is typical of many newer technologies, they become more cost effective as the take-up rate grows outside of our federal government departments.
